#BacktoSchool Tips

As kids gear up to head back to school, we wanted to share a quick list of oral hygiene tips to remember while you’re packing the backpacks:

  1. Get that summertime checkup. Getting in for a routine cleaning and exam during the dog days of summer helps free up your fall schedule, spruces up those pearly whites, and helps prevent unwanted emergencies during the school schedule.

  2. School sports? Make sure your child is wearing a mouthguard to help prevent permanent tooth damage from injuries. A custom sports guard is recommended 1x/year for maximal protection.

  3. Headed to college? Don’t forget your retainers! They only work when they’re in your mouth. Wear them every night to keep that straight A smile.

  4. School snacks: stick to healthier snacks! If it sits on a shelf (or in a vending machine), it will sit on your teeth and cause cavities. We recommend packing items such as carrots, celery, apples, cheese, nut butters (if allowed by the school), or meats.

  5. Make oral hygiene part of your school schedule. If it isn’t a routine, it usually doesn’t happen.
