Magnolia’s Dental Tech: Delivering The Best Dental Experience in Frederick.
Imagine it’s a different time. A time long ago. A time in which you really don’t want to imagine dentistry being done, but it is. These are the days of no local anesthetic, extractions and hand drills. Let’s be honest. Nobody wants to remember all of that, BUT I think it is important to see how far dentistry has come.
In this day and age, technology is a driving economic force. The same is true in the world of teeth. New technological advancements in the science and engineering of dentistry is changing the landscape of comfort, accuracy, efficiency and improving the overall standard of care. Incorporating the very latest technologies into our practice helps us deliver the exemplary, individualized care you’ve come to expect from Magnolia. We thought you might enjoy learning about some of the things we’ve incorporated into our practice - and more importantly - how they ensure the safest, most comfortable experience you’ve ever had at a dentist.
Cone Bean Commuted Tomography (CBCT)
We are beyond excited to have a CBCT in our office. The machine that sits in our hallway and spins around your head has multiple functions. It can take our normal 2D panoramic radiographs. OR, we can take 3D images to help us diagnose any issues with your teeth, jaws, TMJ and airway! This may not sound all that new, but it is in the world of dentistry. In dentistry, we rely heavily on radiographs to help inform our clinical decisions. However, one of the main issues with our normal x-rays is that they are 2-dimensional, which means that there are many body structures superimposed on top of one another. This can prevent issues from being detected early on. In steps the 3D image where we can look at any area in minute slices! So cool. As you can imagine, this is stepping up the game for standard of care. On the regular, the CBCT is being used to help surgical planning for implant placement and wisdom tooth removal, look for the nerves in root canals, check for any abnormal growths or developments, and now helping to evaluate airway volume.
The Primescan
If you have ever had to have a goopy impression in your mouth for 2-5 minutes, you will likely never forget it. At Magnolia, gone are the days of “breathe through your nose and wiggle your toes” as a massive tray gets shoved into your mouth. We recently acquired a machine by Dentsply Sirona called the Primescan. No, it’s not a Transformer, it’s what we in the biz call an intraoral scanner. It takes thousands of photos a second to create a livestream impression of whatever we are scanning in your mouth. It is powerfully fast and extremely accurate. We no longer have to worry about our impression material distorting, or not capturing something well enough and needing to take another. Instead, we just scan away. We can use this instrument for anything from retainers and nightguards to crowns and bridges. We can also take scans to qualitatively measure any changes in your mouth, like gum recession or tooth movement. This machine is a workhorse and has gladly removed a large majority of human error from the clinical side of dentistry.
The Wand
What most people get anxious about at the dentist is the shots. Nobody likes needles, let alone in their face. It might be a surprise to you, but neither do I! In fact, I really hate giving people shots. I will admit that it is far better than the primitive alternative of the good ole days where everyone felt everything. BUT, still not fun.
When I discovered The Wand, I knew we needed it in the office. The Wand is a machine that helps deliver our local anesthetic with a metered dose. With the help of our topical jelly, The Wand prevents feeling that pinch or burning or stinging sensation. Depending on the situation, this machine can also use another injection technique that can numb a single tooth at a time which is so great when you have a big meeting to catch right after your dental appointment.
These are just a few of the fun tech gadgets we have at our office, but you can see why they are exciting. They help create a more efficient, accurate and comfortable dental visit here at Magnolia Dentistry on Market. We look forward to what is next to come to help make that trek to the dentist just a little bit easier.
